Botox works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles. When the signals are blocked, the muscles relax and the associated lines and wrinkles disappear.
Dr. Shaun Patel and his team at Miami Skin and Vein are highly experienced in the administration of Botox injections. He has helped many patients look their best with Botox and other injectables. He offers the following advice about what to expect before, during, and after Botox.
Before Botox
It’s a good idea to let Dr. Patel know about any blood thinning medications you are taking. These include fish oil, aspirin, pain relievers such as Advil, and herbal supplements. Stopping these medications and supplements for 7 days prior to your treatment may prevent bruising from the Botox injections. That being said, it is important that you do not stop any medications prescribed by your physician. Dr. Patel also recommends patients avoid wearing makeup to their Botox appointment. This allows him to better assess the face prior to Botox injection.
During
Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific areas on the face, delivering natural looking results. There is only minimal discomfort during the injections, and the entire treatment usually takes less than 10 minutes. After the injections, Dr. Patel likes to apply an icepack to the treatment sites to prevent any swelling and bruising.
There may be some mild bruising, swelling or redness which will resolve soon after the treatment Patients can apply makeup immediately after the procedure. Patients are asked to refrain from heavy lifting or exercise, and alcohol intake for up to 24 hours after the Botox treatment.
Most patients start seeing some results after 72 hours, but it can take 1-2 weeks to see the full effects of Botox. Results will last for several months before retreatment is needed. Dr. Patel will work with you on a schedule to maintain your results long-term. If you want to find out of if you are a candidate for Botox, call us today at 786-618-5039.
