What is microneedling?
As the name implies, microneedling is done using a specialized device equipped with many tiny needles. It is guided along the skin, producing tiny microwounds on the skin surface. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, which is associated with an increase in collagen and elastin production as well as improved blood supply in the skin. The result is smoother, more radient, and healthier appearing skin.
Am I a candidate for microneedling?
Almost anyone including patients of all skin types can benefit from microneedling. Both men and women with uneven skin texture or tone are candidates. Recent skin infections, severe rosacea, concurrent blood thinner use, immunosuppression and pregnancy are relative contraindications to the treatment..
Microneedling can address acne scars , fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture abnormalities, stretch marks, and large pores.
What is the procedure like?
Before the microneedling procedure, a numbing cream is applied to the skin for patient comfort. The device, equipped with 12 tiny needles is guided across the skin. Although it sounds painful, it’s really not because of the topical anesthetic used and the fact that the needles are very tiny. After the procedure, Dr. Patel applies a hydrating serum and calming masque to the skin. Patients will notice some swelling and redness immediately after the procedure which will resolve over the following 24 hours. The best results are seen with a series of treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
